Year 4: Tenths

Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial about tenths as fractions. You will be using a variety of pictorial representations (cubes, counters, shapes, bar model) and the part whole model and solving some problems. Use the diagrams provided, or draw your own to help you solve the problems.

Note to parents: children should be familiar with the part whole model, but this is explained clearly in the video.

Parents: I have also uploaded the answer sheet (Y4 MATHS ANSWERS) for you to refer to.

Year 5: Equivalent fractions

Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial to learn how to use bar models and fraction walls to find equivalent fractions. You will need to look carefully at the equivalent fractions you find and see if you can spot any patterns? Learn how to find any equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing the numerators and denominators.

Then, complete the worksheet below (Y5 Maths Wednesday). You could print it off and write on the worksheet, or write the answers on paper/exercise book, but remember to number your answers clearly so your parents can check you are correct.

English: Create your own foodimal

Use the power point below (Foodimals lesson 1). Watch the trailer for “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2” (slide 2). What is a ‘Foodimal?’ Go thorugh the rest of the powerpoint which explains how the different foodimals have been created. Look carefully at how the names have been created. What do you notice?

Use these ideas as inspiration to create your own foodimal. (Have a look at Mrs Simon’s example too). Draw your foodimal and then write a description of it. (what it looks like, what it eats, how it moves, where it lives , who are its friends/enemies, how does it behave) You could use the worksheets provided (Creating my foodimal) or draw and write your work on paper/in your book.
