Spellings:
Use slide 6 of the powerpoint below to practice words containing the sure/ture suffixes. Remember, don’t do them all in one go- 10 is plenty.
Read for pleasure: Spend 10-15 minutes (or more if you want) reading something for pleasure. It could be a story, poem, play, information text, comic, graphic novel or online text/kindle/e-reader. You could also read to a younger or older sibling.
English: Research
During Science, you learned about the theory of evolution. Over the next couple of days, (Wednesday and Thursday) I need you to research the life of Charles Darwin and record notes. Next week, you are going to use your notes to write a biography about Charles Darwin. To get you started, I have included a powerpoint containing some information about Charles Darwin.
Hints and Tips:
This is a research, not a copying exercise, so you should read the information carefully, and make notes IN YOUR OWN WORDS, not just copy chunks of text.
You will need to include some information about his family life, but the majority of your information should be focused on what Charles Darwin is famous for (the theory of evolution!) and going into detail. Things that should definitely be mentioned:
- Galapagos islands
- HMS Beagle
- Finches
- Natural selection
- Origin of species
- Evolution (obviously!!!)

History: VE day
This Friday is a bank holiday ad has a very special significance, the 75th anniversary of VE day. Go through the powerpoint (VE Day) to learn about VE day, and click on the link below to watch a clip of the first VE day. Record what you have learned about VE Day in your exercise books, choosing how to present your information (e.g. bullet points, information poster, report…be creative).
Hint: tomorrow we will be combining art and history to prepare for VE day celebrations!
