Spellings: rule 39: ance/ancy, emcee/ency suffixes

English/Topic: Could you be the next David Attenborough?

Part 1: "Story" ideas

Remember, you are going to need to tell a story about your chosen creature in your narration based upon its behaviour. One of the easiest stories to create would be based around how it catches its prey, or is preyed upon. Watch the two clips below from blue planet (narrated by David Attenborough) to see some examples of how the production team tell a story of how these creatures catch their prey, and try to create some suspense. Also, take note of what the narrator says (this is what you are going to try to emulate (copy) in your narration).

Part 2: Continue to research your sea creature.

This links with part 3…planning the story you are going to tell. You need to be accurate in your information, so you are going to need to research carefully.

You need to decide what aspect of behaviour your narration is going to describe…

e.g. hunting prey, hiding/escaping from predators, migration, offspring etc.

Then, find out all you can about that particular area, so you can weave in your facts to your story.

Part 3: Plan your “story”

Use the story board template to plan the story you are going to tell of your chosen sea creature. Like any story, it will need an opening (set the scene…describe what and where); build-up (what is your creature doing…e.g. swimming across the open ocean/ swimming amongst the tentacles of an anemone, entering the shark infested sea to reach feeding grounds… etc); dilemma (the problem…e.g. being pursued by a pod of orca/shark….hunting a penguin…etc); resolution (catching the prey/escaping etc); ending (what comment could you conclude your narrative with?). You could also use a story mountain to help your planning if you wish.

Having listened to your feedback from last week, some of you preferred the white rose maths, and some preferred the NCETM videos. So, I am going to offer a choice. You can either do the white rose or  the NCETM videos. There is no right or wrong option, it is what best suits you. Either lesson will benefit your child.
